Master Bath Update
July 3, 2018
When it comes to renovating a house, the kitchen and master bath tend to be the most involved and challenging areas to tackle. As you may remember, the kitchen was our very first project and we were blessed to have had HGTV and House Hunters Renovations help us create an amazing new space just about three years ago. Finally, we saved the best for last and decided to embark on an entire master suite update which was finished last month. Here are a couple of pictures of the bathroom before the remodel.
First we had to take the room down to the studs and remove the tile.
During this eight week remodel, we had to demonstrate great patience and flexibility as our master bedroom also became a construction zone because it was the only entrance and exit for the workers. We would cover the bed by day and sleep with cords and bags of mortar at night. It was pretty glamorous!
After the demo was complete, the framing, sheetrocking and tiling began. We chose a large white subway tile for the over-sized walk in shower with honeycomb marble insets to provide space for shower toiletries.
We also chose to use the small honeycomb marble for the flooring in the area where we set a giant stand alone stone tub. We put shiplap around the tub area and on the walls of the vanity area.
We decided to forgo built in cabinets and instead we ordered a pre-fabricated vanity with a marble top in the space and hung the original mirrors back on the wall of shiplap. We extended the same textured wood tile from the rest of the house into the bathroom.
After adding an amazing sliding barn door, new light fixtures and recessed can lights, our space was finally complete! An updated and bright space which completed the farmhouse uniting old and new!
The double doors at the end of the bathroom go into our master closet in which we also created a sneaky pass-through to the laundry room! We couldn't be happier with the beautiful but functional bathroom that emerged.
